Experts on the soil analyses

The purpose of soil analysis is:

  • Determining the basic characteristics of soils: pH, conductivity (EC), calcium carbonate, granulometric composition and organic matter.
  • The calculation of the soil's content of macronutrients and micronutrients.
  • Determining whether the specific plot of land is suitable for the establishment of specific crops and whether the requirements of these crops are covered by the properties of the specific plot of land or whether an addition in the form of fertilization is needed.

Soil sampling procedures

  • The sample to be collected for analysis should be as representative as possible of the plot. At least 5 samples per 10 acres of equal volume from a depth of 0-30 centimeters are recommended according to the following scheme:
  • The samples are mixed together and the final sample that will be presented to the laboratory should be approximately 1 kilo or ¾ of a supermarket bag..
  • If it is a tree crop or a vineyard, the same process is followed at a depth of 30–60 centimeters, from which a secondο sample of the same quantity as the first. In established tree crops, the sampling points should be located in the middle of the shade of the trees as shown in the image below.

Basic tips

Sampling Period

Under normal circumstances, sampling is useful to be carried out at such a time that, after the results are issued, there is the necessary time for the supply and application of fertilizers or any necessary corrective interventions required on the plot and resulting from the fertilization advice.

Avoid

The individual samples are taken from random points and NEVER near the border of the parcel or from points crossed by streams or flood frequently.

Uniformity

The plot where sampling is carried out should be uniform. That is, if in an area of 20 acres there is a point of the plot of land measuring 1 acre that presents some peculiarity in relation to the rest, a sample should NOT be taken from that specific section or, if taken, it should be placed in a separate bag and marked for separate analysis.
