Compliance rules
The following are defined as acceptance criteria:
Decision Rules and Statements of Conformity:
SOILAB normally reports test results without a statement of conformity. A statement of conformity is provided only upon a documented customer request or when required by applicable legislation, a standard or a specification, in accordance with the laboratory’s procedure Δ-25. Before work begins, the following are defined and recorded in the quotation, contract or work order: Whether a statement of conformity is requested. The samples and parameters to which it will apply. The applicable legislation, standard or specification and the corresponding limits. The decision rule and how measurement uncertainty is taken into account. The decision rule is communicated to and agreed with the customer, with documented evidence, before work begins, unless it is inherent in the applicable requirement. Information provided on the website does not replace documented agreement.
Water Intended for Human Consumption:
When a statement of conformity is provided against the parametric values specified in Joint Ministerial Decision Δ1(δ)/ΓΠ οικ. 27829/2023, as amended and in force, a simple acceptance rule with no guard band is applied, unless a specific applicable provision requires a different rule.
For a measurement result x:
- Upper limit L: conforming when x ≤ L and nonconforming when x > L.
- Lower limit L: conforming when x ≥ L and nonconforming when x < L.
- Acceptable interval: conforming when Lmin ≤ x ≤ Lmax and nonconforming when the result falls outside this interval.
**Measurement uncertainty is not used as an additional tolerance to the parametric values. It is evaluated and reported where required, without increasing the permissible limits.
Simple acceptance involves a risk of false acceptance or false rejection for results close to the limit.
Soil and Other Tests with Specified Limits:
Where a specific numerical limit is established in identified legislation, a standard or a customer specification, the decision rule prescribed by that requirement takes precedence.
Where no other rule is prescribed, the laboratory’s default rule is a binary decision rule for guarded acceptance, with a guard band equal to the expanded measurement uncertainty U, subject to documented agreement with the customer.
For a measurement result x:
- Upper limit L: conforming when x + U ≤ L.
- Lower limit L: conforming when x − U ≥ L.
- Acceptable interval: conforming when both x − U ≥ Lmin and x + U ≤ Lmax are satisfied.
In all other cases, the result is reported as nonconforming under the agreed guarded acceptance rule. This may occur even when the measurement result falls within the numerical limit. The rule reduces the risk of false acceptance while increasing the risk of rejecting a result that may be within the limits.
An alternative rule is applied only where permitted by the applicable requirement and agreed in writing before work begins.
Soil fertility assessments, nutrient status classifications and fertilisation recommendations, where no specific applicable specification exists, constitute opinions and interpretations rather than statements of conformity.
Scope and Limitations:
A statement of conformity applies exclusively to the sample tested, the parameters reported and the specific requirements assessed. It does not constitute overall certification of the suitability of a water supply, a water distribution network or an agricultural plot.
Results reported as below the limit of detection or limit of quantification, indicated as <LOD or <LOQ, do not automatically establish conformity. The suitability of the method and its limits is assessed against the applicable requirement and the agreed decision rule.
The applicable decision rule is included in the report alongside the statement of conformity, unless it is inherent in the applicable requirement.
SOILAB’s accreditation by the Hellenic Accreditation System (ESYD), under accreditation certificate number 1436, applies exclusively to the activities included in its official scope of accreditation. Activities outside this scope are not covered by the accreditation. Neither the accreditation nor the test reports constitute or imply approval of products or services by ESYD.
